This Chapter covers Adobe PageMill version 2 and 3 Q: My Web site is built primarly in Adobe's Pagemill 2.0. I was told to contact you about Adobe PageMill problems. Please advise of the problems or fixes you have to make your system work with mine. A: The only one that should concern you is that Adobe for some reason decided that no one would ever want to have more than one form on a given page. At Americart we do that all the time. The add to cart buttons you see in our examples are really the submit buttons for separate forms. In effect, you're limited to one item per page with PageMill. The good news is that there are several ways to work around this. The first (thanks to Tony Mogavero) is to use the "INSERT PLACEHOLDER" function (the "NOEDIT" tag). Adobe PageMill will ignore anything within the NOEDIT tags. EXAMPLE
The second is to use what we call multi-item format. There's a FAQ chapter on the subject entitled "Multi-item additions to cart". In effect, it allows you to have more than one item be placed in the cart from a single "add to cart" button. It's just one form, so PageMill is happy. The third method is to use simple links as a way to add to the cart. That's outlined in the FAQ section entitled "Q&A on Site Layout" It's pretty easy to do, maybe easier than multi-item format, but you can't really have options for the item. That "Q&A on Site Layout" also details how to have the VIEW and CHECKOUT function be a simple link, and so bypass the PageMill problem. Q: What about frames? A: If you use frames, you can have a standard "view cart" in one, a "checkout" in another, and your products in another. One frame, one standard form. Using frames, you can still use the workarounds mentioned above. ---- Got any other PageMill problems or hints? Please send them in.
